St. Louis Cardinals can’t do what Memphis Redbirds did: Beat Cubs Jeff Samardzija

During the Iowa Cubs‘ division-deciding series against the Memphis Redbirds last week, I-Cubs Jeff Samardzija surrendered seven earned runs in the first three innings to the St. Louis Cardinals’ top farm team. The Redbirds won that game, the next one and now are en route to the PCL finals. Monday night, the Chicago Cubs righty earned his first win this season by beating the Cardinals in St. Louis, 5-1.

Samardzija, who was sent to the minors in April after posting an 0-1 record with an 18.30 ERA in 3 1-3 innings, allowed six hits, walked four and struck out one in 5 2-3 innings. The former Notre Dame football star helped himself with a broken-bat single to knock in Xavier Nady in his first at-bat of 2010. Perhaps, the Redbirds should be brought to St. Louis and the Cardinals sent down to Memphis. Obviously one team knows how to play like a winner and the other does not.
