Joe Mather’s Double Dingers Lead Redbirds to Victory in Game 1

Joe Mather became the first Redbird to homer twice in a playoff game. The Memphis Redbirds outfielder also knocked in three runs Wednesday, powering the St. Louis Cardinals Triple-A team to a 7-5 victory over the Oklahoma City RedHawks in Game 1 of their Pacific Coast League semifinal series. After surrendering a lead-off double in the ninth, reliever Josh Kinney slammed the door shut on the next three Texas Rangers farmers to cinch the win.

In April, Mather, who has bounced between St. Louis and Memphis during the past three seasons, pitched for the Cardinals in the 19th and 20th innings against the New York Mets. He picked up the loss when the Mets won 2-1 in the 20th.
